Background
The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC), located in Lowell, Massachusetts, serves to protect, preserve, and restore water quality in the New England States and New York State.
Job Summary
NEIWPCC seeks an intern to work on a variety of technical projects that focus on water quality management issues; including research support for wetland and surface water monitoring and assessment activities in the Northeast.
Responsibilities
The Water Quality Intern will perform a variety of tasks, including, but not limited to:
- Water quality research and assessment
- Technical report writing
- Meeting preparation (e.g., develop power point presentations, prepare handouts etc.)
Education
Minimum of 3 years towards a Bachelor's Degree in the Environmental Sciences or a related field; course work in botany, environmental policy, or water resources is a plus.
Qualifications
The position requires participation in a highly motivated team that provides innovative solutions for state water quality programs. Ideal applicants will be well-organized and highly motivated individuals with a desire to learn about watershed management techniques; specific qualifications:
- Strong personal computer skills essential, specifically, excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access (e.g., strong word processing, spreadsheet, and database skills);
- Demonstrated ability to complete assignments independently, work on several projects simultaneously, budget time appropriately, and follow projects through completion;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (e.g., comfortable communicating with professionals via phone and email to arrange meetings or make inquiries related to research assignments);
Additional Information
This a paid position; the position will last 10 hours a week for approximately 20 weeks, starting in late November. The position does not include benefits.
