HydroQual, Inc., an ENR environmental 200 firm and a leader in the field of environmental engineering and science seeks qualified candidates for a position as an Environmental Scientist in the Environmental Science Group in Mahwah, New Jersey.

Environmental Science Group:
HydroQual's Environmental Sciences Group delivers regulatory and technical support to our public and private clients for a wide range of activities and proposed actions. We have routinely provided technical assistance for the identification of potential environmental constraints for proposed actions. In addition, the firm has been responsible for the development and implementation of environmental compliance and permitting strategies for our clients in order to successfully negotiate and acquire required permits and approvals and to maintain environmental compliance.

Services provided by the Environmental Sciences Group include: environmental permitting, impact analyses and assessment, compliance evaluations and documentation and natural resource investigations. These efforts cross several disciplines that include biology, chemistry, ecology, and civil and environmental engineering, as well as various media (water, sediments, soil and air). to addressing environmental compliance, planning and permitting needs.

Responsibilities include:
• Performs natural resource investigations, including, but not limited to wetland delineations and ecological community assessments.
• Prepares various written materials such as permit applications for various regulatory agencies, sections of reports, letters or memoranda.
• Participates in various field assignments, including natural resources and water quality investigations and Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
• Performs various calculations, such as diversity indices, species richness, geometry and descriptive statistics (e.g., average, mean and geometric mean).
• Compile and manipulate environmental data such as spreadsheet preparation, database preparation, data sorting, comparison of data with standards.
• Researches regulations, technical information/data, and reports findings to supervisor.

Successful candidate will possess the following:
• Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, or Natural Resources degree.
• 3-5 years related experience.
• Experience with environmental licensing and permitting of fixed and linear projects (e.g., roadways, pipelines, etc.) under federal, state and local regulations.
• Experience with Environmental Impact Assessment under NEPA, SEQRA and/or CEQR.
• Experience with natural resource investigations including, but not limited to, tidal and freshwater wetland assessment and mitigation, ecological community assessment, aquatic resource evaluations and Essential Fish Habitat studies.
• Ability to apply complex concepts to the development of practical, client-focused solutions.
• Detail orientation with the ability to recognize opportunities for broader applications.
• Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent computer skills, with efficiency in MS Office applications.
• Superior written and oral communication skills.
