Pace is a public transportation agency in Northeastern Illinois and is the suburban bus division of the Regional Transportation Authority.
This position is based at Pace headquarters located at 550 W. Algonquin Road, Arlington Heights, IL which is 25 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. O'Hare Airport is 20 minutes from this office. A bus route operates between the CTA Rosemont Blue Line Station and Pace headquarters. A new headquarters building next door will open in January 2009.
The Service Planner I position is an entry level position within the Service Planning section. Under the guidance of the Section Manager and senior staff, the Service Planner I does the following: Plans and implements changes in fixed routes, community transit and paratransit services operated by Pace garages and contractors; analyzes route performance using data from Pace's intelligent bus fleet such as on-time performance and passenger counts; conducts field work to review current service and plan new service; calculates cost of service changes; participates in Pace service restructuring initiatives whereby current service is evaluated region by region by a cross-functional team with the goal of adjusting service to meet current demand and to increase system ridership and revenue; investigates service inquiries from the public; attends public meetings as needed; and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: B.A. in either Urban and Regional Planning, Transportation Planning, Public Policy, Business or a related field. Previous transportation planning is a plus but not required. Must have excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills and a successful work history and not have any problems with anger management. Applicant should be able to multi-task and handle the stress of multiple projects and be self-directed. A working knowledge of ArcMap/GIS, Excel, Word and Outlook software is necessary. A valid automobile driver's license and clean record is needed in order to use staff cars to attend off-property meetings and to conduct field work. Most important, we seek an individual who can understand complex problems and come up with the best solutions quickly.
